The Spotloan interest rate on a first loan is 490% APR, which works out to about 1.34% per day in simple interest. After paying a first loan in full and on time, you may qualify for 330% to 460% APR. From your 10th Spotloan, the APR can be as low as 99%. Paying early reduces your cost, with no prepayment penalty.
Key takeaways
- A first Spotloan is 490% APR, roughly 1.34% per day on the principal you still owe.
- Repeat borrowers who paid on time may get 330%–460%. From the 10th loan: as low as 99%.
- Spotloan's own example: $600 over 10 biweekly payments costs about $775 in interest.
- Because interest is simple and daily, paying early or extra cuts your cost. No prepayment penalty.
- Credit union PALs cap APR at 28%, and a typical payday loan runs almost 400%.
Spotloan APR Tiers at a Glance
Spotloan's maximum APR is 490%. APR, or annual percentage rate, is the yearly cost of borrowing expressed as a percentage. Your rate depends on how many Spotloans you have repaid, as of October 2026:
| Loan | Spotloan APR | How to qualify |
|---|---|---|
| First Spotloan | 490% | Every first loan starts here |
| Next Spotloan | 330%–460% | Pay a first Spotloan in full and on time (you may qualify) |
| 10th Spotloan onward | As low as 99% | Starting with your 10th Spotloan |
Spotloan says there are no hidden fees and that all fees are disclosed in the loan documents. Third-party reviews report no origination fee. There are also no late fees, but missed payments still cost you extra interest.
Even the 99% tier is expensive compared with mainstream credit. Spotloan itself says its loans are costly and meant for short-term emergencies. For the full overview of amounts and terms, see our guide to Spotloan loans.
What a 1.34% Daily Rate Means
Spotloan is a simple-interest loan. Interest builds every day on the principal you still owe, which is the part of the loan you haven't paid back yet. At 490% APR, the daily rate is about 1.34%.
Put simply, every $100 of principal you still owe costs roughly $1.34 a day. On a $600 balance, that's about $8 a day in interest at the start of the loan. As your payments chip away at the principal, the daily interest shrinks too.
Why paying early or extra saves money
- Fewer days of interest. Paying off a Spotloan early stops the daily interest sooner.
- Lower principal, lower interest. An extra payment reduces principal, so each following day costs less.
- No prepayment penalty. Spotloan doesn't charge you for paying ahead.
- Late payments add cost. There are no late fees, but every extra day the principal stays unpaid adds interest.
To change your payment amount or set up a payoff, contact Spotloan at least 2 business days before your due date. Simple interest also means interest is charged on principal, not on interest you already owe.

Spotloan's Official Cost Example
Spotloan publishes this example for a first loan:
- Amount: $600
- APR: 490%
- Schedule: 10 biweekly payments over 5 months, first payment 14 days after funding
- Finance charges: about $775
- Total payback: about $1,375
Why the cost is so high on a short loan
APR is an annual figure, so it can be hard to picture on a five-month loan. Here's a simpler way to see it. At the start of the $600 example, the daily rate of about 1.34% means roughly $8 of interest a day. Your first payment comes 14 days after funding, so by then about two weeks of interest has built up, and a large share of that first payment goes to interest rather than principal. As the balance falls with each payment, more of every payment goes toward principal and the daily interest shrinks. That's why extra payments early in the loan have the biggest effect on what you pay overall.
Our calculator model, which uses simple daily interest with 14-day periods, comes out at about $137.30 per payment and about $773 in finance charges, very close to Spotloan's own figure. The takeaway: on a five-month first Spotloan, you repay more than twice what you borrowed.

Estimated Spotloan Costs by Amount and APR
The figures below are estimates from our model: simple daily interest, 10 biweekly payments over about 5 months, first payment 14 days after funding. Your loan documents show your actual costs.
| Amount | APR | Per payment | Finance charge | Total repaid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $300 | 490% | $68.65 | $386.49 | $686.49 |
| $500 | 490% | $114.41 | $644.14 | $1,144.14 |
| $800 | 490% | $183.06 | $1,030.63 | $1,830.63 |
| $800 | 460% | $175.76 | $957.64 | $1,757.64 |
| $800 | 330% | $145.42 | $654.19 | $1,454.19 |
| $800 | 99% | $97.64 | $176.40 | $976.40 |
| $1,500 | 99% | $183.07 | $330.75 | $1,830.75 |
Look at the $800 rows. Moving from 490% to 330% saves an estimated $376 in interest, and the 99% tier costs about $176. For comparison, the same $800 at a 35.99% APR over 10 biweekly payments would cost roughly $61.99 in interest, for about $861.99 total.

10 biweekly payments$137.30
Estimate only, using simple daily interest (APR ÷ 365) on the unpaid balance with equal payments; the first payment is assumed 14 days (or one month) after funding. With Spotloan’s own example — $600 at 490% APR, 10 biweekly payments — this model gives about $773 in interest vs. Spotloan’s stated ≈$775. Your actual Spotloan terms are in your loan agreement. Spotloan APR vs. Payday Loans, Credit Cards and PALs
How does the Spotloan interest rate compare with other ways to borrow? Here's a quick side-by-side using published figures:
| Option | Typical or maximum APR | How you repay |
|---|---|---|
| Spotloan (first loan) | 490% | Installments, up to 10 months |
| Payday loan (CFPB example) | Almost 400% ($15 per $100 for two weeks) | Lump sum, usually on your next payday |
| Credit union PAL (NCUA) | 28% maximum | Installments, 1–12 months |
| Credit card | Varies by card; generally far below Spotloan | Revolving, minimum monthly payments |
Payday loans. The CFPB says payday loans are typically $500 or less and due in a lump sum in about two weeks. A typical fee of $15 per $100 borrowed equals an APR of almost 400%. A first Spotloan has a higher APR, but you repay in installments rather than all at once. Our Spotloan vs. payday loans comparison digs deeper.
Credit union PALs. Federal credit unions offer PAL I loans of $200–$1,000 and PAL II loans up to $2,000, with a maximum APR of 28% and an application fee of up to $20. If you can join a credit union, this is usually the cheapest small-dollar option.
Credit cards. Card rates vary, but they are generally a small fraction of Spotloan's APR. Spotloan itself lists a credit card cash advance among the alternatives to consider.
How to Pay Less Interest on a Spotloan
You can't change the APR on a loan once you've signed, but you can control how much interest you actually pay. Because Spotloan uses simple daily interest, your habits make a real difference:
- Borrow less. Interest is charged on principal, so a smaller loan means less interest every single day. Our estimates show a $300 loan at 490% costing about $386.49 in interest, versus about $1,030.63 for $800.
- Choose a shorter schedule if you can afford it. Terms go up to 10 months, but every extra month adds more days of interest.
- Pay extra when you can. Any amount above your scheduled payment goes toward principal and lowers the daily interest from then on.
- Pay off early. There's no prepayment penalty. Contact Spotloan at least 2 business days ahead to set up a payoff.
- Never miss a payment. Spotloan doesn't charge late fees, but missed payments add interest. Late or unpaid amounts may be reported to credit reporting agencies, and unpaid accounts may go to collections.
- Use automatic payments. Spotloan says 97% of customers pay by ACH debit. Mailed checks or money orders may take 7–10 days for your bank to clear.
If you're a repeat borrower, paying your first Spotloan in full and on time may qualify you for 330%–460% APR on the next one. Still, the cheapest Spotloan is usually the one you pay off fastest, or the one you don't need to take. If you're already struggling with payments, our guide on what to do if you can't pay a Spotloan walks through your options.

What is Spotloan's interest rate?
A first Spotloan carries a 490% APR, Spotloan's maximum. After you pay a first Spotloan in full and on time, you may qualify for an APR between 330% and 460% on your next loan. Starting with your 10th Spotloan, the APR can be as low as 99%. Interest is simple and builds daily on the principal you owe.
What is Spotloan's daily interest rate?
At 490% APR, Spotloan's daily rate is about 1.34%. That means every $100 of principal you still owe costs roughly $1.34 in interest per day. As you pay down principal, the daily interest gets smaller. Paying early or making extra payments reduces the number of days interest can build.
Why is Spotloan's APR so high?
Spotloan offers short-term, unsecured loans with no collateral, and it reviews applicants using more than just FICO scores. It is licensed by the Tribe's Lending Commission rather than by the states where borrowers live, so state rate caps don't set its pricing in the same way. Spotloan itself says its loans are expensive and meant for short-term emergencies, and it suggests considering cheaper alternatives first.
How much interest will I pay on a Spotloan?
It depends on the amount, APR and how fast you repay. Spotloan's own example, a $600 first loan at 490% APR repaid in 10 biweekly payments, costs about $775 in interest. Our estimates show an $800 loan at 490% costing about $1,030.63 in interest over the same schedule. Paying early lowers these amounts.
Can I lower my Spotloan interest rate?
Yes, over time. If you pay a first Spotloan in full and on time, you may qualify for 330% to 460% APR on your next loan. From your 10th Spotloan, rates can drop as low as 99%. Within any single loan, paying early or paying extra reduces the total interest you pay, with no prepayment penalty.
Is Spotloan cheaper than a payday loan?
Not on APR alone. A first Spotloan is 490% APR, while the CFPB's typical payday example works out to almost 400%. However, a Spotloan is repaid in installments rather than a single lump sum, which some borrowers find easier to manage. A credit union Payday Alternative Loan, capped at 28% APR, is far cheaper than either.
