Quick answer

Spotloan is owned by Ningo Lending LLC, a tribal company wholly owned by the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Since December 2, 2025, Ningo services Spotloan loans. BlueChip Financial, another entity of the same Tribe, ran Spotloan before that. Spotloan says payments, the online portal and contact info stayed the same.

Key takeaways

  • December 2, 2025: Ningo Lending LLC (doing business as Spotloan) began servicing Spotloan loans.
  • BlueChip Financial operated Spotloan from its founding in 2012 until the change.
  • Payments, the online account portal and contact information stayed the same, according to Spotloan.
  • Loans already with a third-party collection agency stay with that agency.
  • Many review sites still say "BlueChip" because they haven't been updated.

What changed on December 2, 2025

Spotloan announced that, as of December 2, 2025, Ningo Lending LLC, doing business as Spotloan, services Spotloan loans. Spotloan is a brand owned by Ningo.

Ningo Lending is a tribal limited liability company formed under the laws of, and wholly owned by, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians of North Dakota, a federally recognized tribe. It operates on the Tribe's reservation, and its lending license is issued by the Tribe's Lending Commission.

In other words, the brand you know stayed the same, and so did the tribal owner. What changed is the name of the tribal company that runs and services the loans. Before this date, that company was BlueChip Financial. After it, the company is Ningo Lending.

For most borrowers, this is a paperwork change more than a practical one. But it matters when you read your loan documents, search for information online or try to verify that a message really came from Spotloan. Ownership is also one of the first things people check when they ask whether Spotloan is legit.

What did not change

Spotloan said the following stayed the same through the transition. If you had a Spotloan before December 2, 2025, you shouldn't need to set anything up again.

What Ningo Lending is, and what it isn't

The name "Ningo Lending" is new to many borrowers, so here's a plain-English breakdown.

Ningo Lending is…Ningo Lending is not…
A tribal limited liability company formed under the laws of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa IndiansA bank or a credit union
Wholly owned by the Tribe, a federally recognized tribe in North DakotaA privately owned company or an outside buyer
Licensed by the Tribe's Lending CommissionLicensed by the state where you live
The company that owns the Spotloan brand and services Spotloan loansA separate lender with different payment portals or phone numbers

Because Ningo operates on the Tribe's reservation, Spotloan says borrowers "electronically visit" the reservation when they apply online and are subject to the Tribe's jurisdiction. That's the same tribal lending model Spotloan used under BlueChip. Tribal lenders generally assert sovereign immunity and tribal law, while state regulators and courts have disputed that in various cases.

Spotloan also displays NAFSA (Native American Financial Services Association) membership and a U.S. Chamber of Commerce member badge on its site. For a deeper look at what tribal licensing means for you, see our tribal lending explainer.

A short history of BlueChip Financial and Spotloan

Before Ningo, Spotloan was operated by BlueChip Financial, a tribally owned entity of the same Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Spotloan was founded in 2012 under BlueChip.

Most of Spotloan's public history happened under the BlueChip name. That includes:

  • A Washington Department of Financial Institutions consumer alert, posted in 2014 and updated in 2017, stating BlueChip d/b/a Spotloan was not licensed by the DFI.
  • A July 2019 settlement agreement with the Connecticut Department of Banking, in which BlueChip did not concede the allegations but agreed to stop lending and collecting in Connecticut, among other terms.
  • The Turner v. ZestFinance class action, in which BlueChip d/b/a Spotloan was a named defendant. Defendants denied wrongdoing. The settlement received final approval on July 9, 2020.

Because those records name BlueChip, you'll still see BlueChip in news articles, court documents and regulator pages. That's accurate for the time period they describe. Read the factual summary on our Spotloan legitimacy page.

Why so many websites still say BlueChip

Search for Spotloan and you'll find plenty of pages that call BlueChip Financial the current lender. There are a few simple reasons.

  • Age. BlueChip ran Spotloan for well over a decade. Most reviews, comparison pages and forum posts were written during that time.
  • No update cycle. Many review sites publish once and rarely revisit. A change in the servicing entity is easy to miss.
  • Legal records. Settlements and alerts correctly name BlueChip because that was the operator when they happened.
  • Copying. Some sites repeat information from other sites instead of checking Spotloan's own pages.

Ownership isn't the only thing that's often out of date. Some sites still list an older 12:30 p.m. funding cutoff; Spotloan's current same-day cutoff is 1:30 p.m. Central Time on weekdays. Our Spotloan reviews page has a full myths-vs-facts list.

Heads up: When a page about Spotloan names BlueChip as the current lender, check its date. Anything written before December 2, 2025 may be outdated on other details too.

What borrowers should check

You don't need to do anything special because of the change, but a few quick checks can save confusion later.

  • The lender name in your loan agreement. Agreements signed before and after December 2, 2025 may name different entities. Keep your copy and note which one appears.
  • Payment descriptors on your bank statement. The name that shows next to your Spotloan debit may look different over time. If a charge looks unfamiliar, call Spotloan before disputing it with your bank.
  • Emails and texts. Messages that mention a new lender name are not automatically suspicious, but you should still only sign in by typing spotloan.com yourself. See our Spotloan sign-in safety tips.
  • Collection accounts. If your loan was already with a collection agency, it stays there. Keep dealing with that agency, and ask for written details of the debt if anything is unclear.
  • Your records. Save confirmation numbers, payment receipts and notes from any calls.

Repeat borrowers: what to ask about

Spotloan rewards repeat borrowers who pay on time, so many longtime customers want to know whether their history still counts after the move to Ningo. Here's how Spotloan's repeat-borrower tiers work as of October 2026:

  • First Spotloan: 490% APR, up to $800.
  • After a first Spotloan is paid in full and on time: you may qualify for 330%–460% APR on the next one.
  • Starting with your 10th Spotloan: APR can be as low as 99%.
  • "Preferred" customers with 10 or more Spotloans: may borrow up to $1,500.

Spotloan's announcement focused on payments, the portal and contact details staying the same. If you're a returning customer and want to confirm how your past loans count toward a lower rate or a higher limit, the simplest step is to ask Spotloan customer service at 888-681-6811 before you apply again. Remember that Spotloan allows only one open loan at a time, and you can reapply after your current loan is paid off and the final payment clears.

Even at the best tier, Spotloan is costly compared with many alternatives. By our estimate, an $800 loan at 99% APR over 10 biweekly payments costs about $176 in interest. The full tier breakdown is on our Spotloan APR guide.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Spotloan?

Spotloan is a brand owned by Ningo Lending LLC, a tribal limited liability company formed under the laws of, and wholly owned by, the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians of North Dakota. Ningo operates on the Tribe's reservation and is licensed by the Tribe's Lending Commission.

Is Spotloan still BlueChip Financial?

No. As of December 2, 2025, Ningo Lending LLC, doing business as Spotloan, services Spotloan loans. BlueChip Financial, another tribally owned entity of the same Tribe, operated Spotloan before that. Pages that still call BlueChip the current lender were likely written before the change.

Do I need to change how I pay my Spotloan?

According to Spotloan, no. It says loan payments, the online account portal and contact information stayed the same after Ningo Lending began servicing loans. If something looks different on your statement or account, call Spotloan at 888-681-6811 to confirm before making any changes.

Did Spotloan's phone number change after Ningo took over?

No. Spotloan says contact information stayed the same. The phone number is 888-681-6811, the email is [email protected], and the mailing address is P.O. Box 720, Belcourt, ND 58316. Hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central Time.

What happens to a Spotloan that is already in collections?

Spotloan says loans already placed with a third-party collection agency stay with that agency after the change. Keep working with that agency, keep records of every payment, and ask for written details of the debt if anything is unclear or you don't recognize the collector.

Why do lawsuits mention BlueChip instead of Ningo?

Because BlueChip Financial operated Spotloan when those events happened. The Washington alert, the 2019 Connecticut settlement and the Turner v. ZestFinance class action all predate December 2, 2025, so they correctly name BlueChip. Both companies are tribal entities of the same Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, so the tribal owner behind Spotloan did not change.
